Respite Care

Respite Solutions that work – for you.

Respite CareFranklin County Residential Services (FCRS) recognizes the importance of providing solutions to families and caregivers looking for safe, comfortable options for respite care. The in-home and out-of-home respite services offered by FCRS are available to eligible Franklin County families who have adults or children with developmental disabilities living in their homes.

FCRS has developed two options for families who need short-term help caring for their loved ones:

  • In-home respite services include a trained FCRS service provider working in the family home, from four hours to two weeks.
  • FCRS also operates a 24-hour out-of-home respite program at two locations for children and one location for adults. These homes provide temporary housing for eligible individuals. Out-of-home respite services are offered from four hours to a maximum of two weeks.

Respite services are offered based on eligibility. FCRS can provide applications for in-home and out-of-home respite services. A sliding fee scale applies, where families share in the cost of services based on the level of income.

How Do Families Apply?

Families who have loved ones with developmental disabilities living in their home can call the Family Support Department of Franklin County Residential Services, at 614/844-5847 to obtain the necessary applications for in-home and out-of-home respite services, or click here.

First, an eligibility application must be completed to determine if the family member with developmental disabilities is eligible for services as determined by the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Once eligibility is approved, families can complete a “Request for Respite Services” application. A meeting can then be requested by the family to review the application and to answer questions about respite services and questions about the individual for which services will be provided.

“We greatly appreciate the respite services we receive. Without it, we would not be able to spend time together as husband and wife. Our daughter loves her provider and I appreciate the ease of scheduling.”
